DRV3255-Q1: Functional safety certification

Hi ,

We develope motor control unit and use TI DRV3255 as gate driver.

The DRV3255 as a class III HW element for ISO26262.

I already got safety manual and FMEDA.

But 3rd party says we still need to provide safety case or assessment report.

Is there safety case or assessment report for DRV3255?

Hi Albert,

The safety case or assessment report is a report about your system as a whole, and since the DRV3255 is only one part of the system, you will need to work with the 3rd party to evaluate and certify your system for the official safety certification. We provide documentation such as the safety manual and FMEDA to help you in this process, but the safety case/ assessment report is based on the entire system design, so it will be something that your team will need to write up based on the whole system design.

DRV3255 is a complex intergrate circuit with its own safety mechanism. It shall be define as a class III hardware element. TI shall provide some kind of document such as safety case / assessment report to confirm the evidence and argument that DRV3255 was developed in compliance with ISO26262 requirement. The document can be provided by TI's internal functional safety team.
