DRV8300DIPW-EVM: DRV8300DIPW

Part Number: DRV8300DIPW-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8300

Hi team,

Customer are using motor drive ICs.

Regarding DRV8300 three-way BLDC Gate Driver, how could we let the MCU know where the stator is relative to the rotor?

Also, what is the purpose of the sense feedback networks and current sensing related designs in the DRV8300 EVB design?

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

Thank you for the questions. The reference software for this EVM is composed for sensored BLDC motor control with external current sense amplifiers. This means that Hall sensors will be used to determine the position of the rotor. Pages 7 and 10 of DRV8300xxx-EVM User’s Guide (ti.com) say where to connect Hall sensors to the EVM. Sense feedback networks/current sensing related designs are used for current regulation and over-current protection. To get a better idea of what's going on with the current sensing networks, the 'Current regulation' video on Motor technology | TI.com provides a good explanation of current regulation and over-current protection. The 'Sensored vs. sensorless control' video on Brushless-DC motors | TI.com also talks more about sensored vs sensorless control for knowing the position of the rotor. Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Best,

    Eli
