DRV8876-Q1: replace DRV8801 with DRV8876 question

Part Number: DRV8876-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8876, DRV8801

Hi team,

thanks for your support always!

I have a question that if I would like to promote out 8876 to replace 8801, does it mean i should rewrite the software again? I have searched datasheet of both's application that it seems totally different.

BR,

Jimmy

  • Follow what Akshay said:

    Hi Jimmy,

the devices are close but not the same one so the control logic as seen in table 8-1 (8801) and table 7.3.2.1(8876) would be a good guide (both phase /enable).

  • Jimmy,

I agree with Akshay.  It depends on how the customers are using the additional MODE pins on the DRV8801 and whether they need synchronous fast decay.  DRV8876 only supports asynchronous (outputs HIZ and current flows thru internal body diodes).  So, we would need to understand more on the current use case to determine software modifications needed.

    Regards,
