DRV8308: Is DRV8308 obsolete?

Hi Team,

The DRV8308 controller implements closed-loop speed control, allowing the motor to run at a precise speed over a wide load torque range. It's required 100W of power to drive motors in customer's projects, so this device can meet the requirement. But the part number is currently not available on TI's official website under the Brushless DC Motor Drivers catalog. The customer would like to know if this device is still available or not? If not, are there alternatives?

Could you help check this case out? Thanks.

Hi Cherry,

The DRV8308 is still active.

Does the customer's application require hall sensor feedback?

If it does not I would recommend that they take a look at the MCT8329A as these device offers more configurability, an easy to use GUI, and is external FET so it can support the 100W power level.

Thank you for the support.

The MCT8329A is priced above the customer's budget.

Project Application: 20V/5A with adapter, 12V/8.5A with 4-string lithium batteries at low battery, MCT8329A 60V range is not required.

Could you help give a better cost-effective chip recommendation?

Hi Cherry,

For pricing, I would recommend that the customer reach out to their FAE for recommendations on that. As for another recommendation that implements a closed-loop speed loop and can support 100W power level, the DRV8308 and MCx8329A are currently our only released devices that can both of these requirements.
