DRV8912-Q1: parallel outputs between devices

Hi,

Can we parallel the outputs between two DRV8912 to (1) have a overall higher driving current (ex. 7A), or (2) reduce the temp rise for each part when driving say 6A (i.e. each IC carries roughly 3A)?

Hi Kyson,

The DRV8912-Q1 is capable of driving the outputs in parallel mode for 6A of maximum current for an individual driver.

However, it is not recommended to drive two separate drivers in parallel due to the possible timing mismatch will lead to shoot through and damage the FETs.

If higher current is desired I would recommend looking into a driver that is capable of a higher continuous output current:

(any of the DRV824x family could be used)

DRV8143-Q1: https://www.ti.com/product/DRV8143-Q1

(or DRV8144-Q1)

Depending on the number of outputs, multiple drivers would be used as these driver only contain one full bridge.
