DRV8220: Using 2 GPIOs with driver IC to control bistable rotary solenoid BRS1020

Part Number: DRV8220

Hi every one,

I'm designing a board to control  bistable rotary solenoid BRS1020

I configure nSLEEP = HIGH,  MODE = HIGH, PH/EN Control mode. My question is:

- Could I use 2 GPIOs: one for EN pin - disable/able controlling and one for PH - control the direction of motor?

- If I use DRV8220DRL, could I use 2 GPIOs (not PWM) for IN1 and IN2?

Thank and Best regards,

  • Hello Dao,

    - Could I use 2 GPIOs: one for EN pin - disable/able controlling and one for PH - control the direction of motor?

Yes. The DRV8220 supports bistable solenoids and relays with the PH/EN configuration.

If I use DRV8220DRL, could I use 2 GPIOs (not PWM) for IN1 and IN2?

Yes it is possible but if you need very fast switching, a PWM signal will be needed unless your MCU can toggle the GPIO ON/FF fast enough for your application.
