MCT8316Z-Q1: Inquiry Regarding Motor Driver Specifications

Part Number: MCT8316Z-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8300, MCF8329A, MCT8329A

Dear TI Team,

We've come across the sensored trapezoidal integrated FET motor driver MCT8316Z-Q1. While it's commendable, we are in search of alternative configurations and control methods that align with our specific requirements. Kindly find our specification below:

Requirement Specifications:

Voltage: Approximately 60V
Current: Up to 100A (External gate driver compatibility is acceptable)
Control Modes: FOC and Trapezoidal
Preference for a fixed function machine without reliance on external microcontroller ICs.

If you have any ICs that fit these criteria, we'd greatly appreciate the information as it would perfectly meet our needs.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

  • Hi Mohan,

We generally recommend selecting drivers that are rated up to 1.5x to 2x of the maximum input motor voltage, in the case of voltage feedback or transients in the system. If 60V is the expected normal motor input/operating voltage, it would restrict the selection down to our 100-V rated gate drivers, such as the DRV835x device family or the DRV8300. Unfortunately, these 100-V rated gate drivers require external MCUs for motor algorithm (FOC or Trap) implementation.

Currently, our highest voltage rated integrated controls solutions are the MCT8329A and MCF8329A, which supports an abs max of 65V. This means the recommended application voltage are <40V (maybe 48V for applications with well-regulated supplies and lower power motors).

    Regards,
    Eric C.
