DRV8912-Q1: The difference of software development between DRV8908-Q1 and DRV8912-Q1

Part Number: DRV8912-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8908-Q1,

<Background>

The customer has already used DRV8908-Q1 and done the software development, but now we want to promote DRV8912-Q1 to replace existing IFX‘s TLE94112.

<Questions>

Could you please tell me what's difference of software development between DRV8908-Q1 and DRV8912-Q1, which will facilitate customers to evaluate the software development workload of DRV8912-Q1

  • Yang,

    Please find this table in the datasheet that lists up the differences between the DRV8908 and DRV8912.

    It is hyperlinked, so you can click on the sections to take you to register map.

    So, the additional effort really depends on how they are using the 8908-Q1 today.  For example, there is NO "passive OLD" in the DRV8912.  If they are using that feature, it won't work in 8912.  If they are using the other modes of OL detect, everything will work fine.

    Another example is the number of PWM channels.  There are 8 in the 8908 and only 4 in the 8912.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan

    Thank you for your reply, I understand that what you are talking about is the difference in hardware, but what customers want to know is the difference in software development. They hope we can provide some support in software development so that they can shorten the software development cycle.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your questions. DRV98xx-Q1 family is designed for similar control/firmware concept. Please see following reg map comparison. HB9-12 are additonal output channels from DRV8908-Q1. Reg map is same but DRV8908-Q1 has reserved/blank area for HB9-12.

    As Ryan mentioned, some different on OLD. We can support if customer use this function and has question separately. This reg difference is also not so complicated.

    I believe customer should feel easy by seeing my feedback.

    regards
