DRV8316C: Meaning of the STATUS Bits in the SDO Output

thank you for your answer. I already read this section but it is not clearly described whether the status bits in SDO are always the IC status register. When I read the status register 1 and status register 2 I do not get an error. But the IC Status register gives me Device Fault. What could be the reason for this?

Hey Lena,

I do not believe your are reading control register 2; read command should have 1 in W0 position.

Please recheck the  SDI and SDO;

Also could you tell me if the nfault line is being pulled low? nfault waveform should help see i the device is triggering a fault.

Hey,

the command 0x8800 have a 1 in the  W0 position, so reading different registers is working. The NFAULT line is going to low but as described only the IC status register give me a device fault the other status registers stay zero.

Is the nfault staying low, or coming back up?(latched vs retry)

Also what outputs did you get from status register 1 and 2, I would like to double check to be sure? Are the other SPI registers showing/being set correctly?

Hi Akshay,

nFlault is coming pack up after 200us. And Status registers 1 is 0x00 and status register 2 return 0x80 but bit 7 is reserved and shout return 0 when read. I can write some control registers but not all of them for example in control register 6  I can not disable the buck converter by writing 0x01 into the register. I have no problems configuring for example control register 3.

How have you confirmed that control register 2 is being configured as expected, A VM OV test?

Also, are you evaluating on your board or do you have a DRV8316EVM as a reference?

I confirm the setting of the register by Reading the Register as first step, then I receive the default value of the register, then I write the new register data and after that I read the register once again and check if its similar to the data I written in. I designed my own board but used the DRV8316EVM as a reference. So HW connections are as recommended.

Have you tested with a different IC? Also are you able to clear the faults?

 I will need to check with team for other considerations. I suggest checking SPI input and outputs waveforms with EVM to confirm.
