MCF8329EVM: GUI does not recognize EVM.

Part Number: MCF8329EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORSTUDIO, MSP430FR2355

Hi support team.

I purchased MCF8329EVM.
However, the GUI(Motorstudio) does not recognize EVM.
I configured the hardware according to the user's guide, installed the GUI, connected the PC and EVM, started the GUI, selected the device, and clicked the Proseed button. The GUI does not recognize EVM.
Next, I did the following:
・Updated to the latest firmware of MSP430FR2355
-Updated the FT232R driver to the latest version.
-Set the COM port baud rate to 460800

I have done the above, but it is still not recognized.
What is missing?

I have also attached a photo of the EVM while it is energized.

Best regards,

Higa

  • Hi Higa,

Thank you for posting your question on e2e! Today is a holiday for the US, but we will aim to provide a response later this week.

  • Hi Lodi-san

The GUI recognized EVM by following the steps below.
Jumper settings etc. have been completed in advance.
    1. Before turning on the EVM, connect it to the PC via USB and the PC port will recognize the EVM (the FTDI driver must be running)
    Make sure that
    2. Change port baud rate to 460800
    3. Disconnect the PC and EVM once.
    4. Start GUI and power on EVM (VM)
    5. Connect PC and EVM with USB cable
    6. Verify that the GUI recognizes EVM

In the user guide, the procedure was to connect to the PC -> power on the EVM, but I was unable to get it recognized using this procedure.
Please let me know if you know the reason.

    Best Regards,

    Higa

  • Hi Lodi-san

    Do you have any update?

    Higa

  • Hi Higa-san,

We've identified a bug in the GUI where it sometimes fails to identify the USB serial ports after launching. When this happens, only closing and re-starting the GUI, and re-plugging in the EVM, may fix the issue. Usually it takes a couple tries before re-connecting.

Please expect an update to the GUI in February that will address this connection issue.

    Regards,
    Eric C.
