DRV8143P-Q1LEVM: Evaluation board not connected- Hardware Not Connected

Part Number: DRV8143P-Q1LEVM

Hi,

I've been to trying to test the DRV8143 driver using the related evaluation board for a while and can't seem to be able to connect it to my PC. I've installed the correct drivers and made sure that the connections are correct. All the required LED's are green and the Status LED is blinking. I can see from the GUI that the port is getting sensed because the correct port is selected but the connection is never established. After trying to connect for several seconds it says Hardware not Connected- Failed to Connect.I'm using the 1.0.1 Cloud GUI

What might be the case?

Regards

  • Hi Baris,

Looks like the EVM User's Guide is under update with information for DRV8143P-Q1LEVM. The "P" EVMs require external 5V supply via TP18 and GND along with the VM supply for operation of this EVM. Have you connected an external 5V to TP18 already?

The latest version of the GUI for this EVM is v1.0.1. For using the cloud version you can use this link, https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/MotorDriversBSM/DRV824x_DRV814x-Q1EVM-GUI/ver/1.0.1/. To download the Windows installer you can use this link, https://dev.ti.com/gallery/dl/MotorDriversBSM/DRV824x_DRV814x-Q1EVM-GUI/ver/1.0.1?platform=win. Some firewall settings are know to block Runtime program installer download from the web. In this case Runtime installer can be downloaded to the local machine using this link, https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/non-esd/gui_composer/runtime/gcruntime-12.0.0-windows-installer.exe. After installing the latest version or running the latest cloud version perform a firmware update using File > Program Device menu.

  • Thank you for your answer. I applied the 5V externally and managed to connect to the device. However it doesn't connect as the correct IC, instead it connects as DRV8243S-Q1EVM, which is definitely not the case. Would this be a problem in terms of functionality?

  • Hi Baris,

Thank you for the update. Ideally the correct version of the EVM should be identified. The DRV8143P-Q1 and DRV8143S-Q1 are functionality is identical but the DRV8243S-Q1 is a full-bridge driver. It may work, but may miss certain aspects.

I assume you did you did a firmware update with the GUI v1.0.1.

A potential issue could be power supply sequencing. Was the 5V supply it derived from the VM power supply or switched on separately after applying VM supply? A workaround for the sequencing issue would be to disconnect the GUI connection using the connection manager icon "(-)" at the left side of the bottom bar, go back to the home page with multiple EVM selection tiles. Then perform a EVM reset by pressing S1 on the EVM. After this step select the DRV814xS/P-Q1EVM. It should identify the correct EVM. I hope this solves the issue for you.
