DRV8256: Ivalley calculation

Part Number: DRV8256

Team,

In case that Itrip set at low current, such as 100mA, and TOFF set to 0, the Ivalley can be calculated as follows;

Ivalley = 19mA + 99% * 100mA = 118mA

Ivalley is greater than Itrip. What happens at this kind of cases?

Thanks,
Nobuhiko Wasa

  • Hi Nobuhiko,

    When using Smart Tune Ripple Control, the current will rise until it reaches ITRIP, then it will enter slow decay until the current level reaches IVALLEY.

    The current regulation threshold, ITRIP, is to be set greater than IVALLEY. In the case that IVALLEY is greater than ITRIP the device will not exit slow decay.

    Best,

    David
