I need to control the motor orientation using a digital output (LOW or HIGH) from an external protoboard (e.g. Arduino or IOIO). For that, I need to remove the J1 jumper and connect the output pin from the protoboard to the EVM FR pin. Is the FR pin the one with the red square around or the round one on the top?

Al,

Square pin is FR pin and round pin on top is GND pin.

Please note that FR pin is pulled up to 5V through a resitor R2=10K in the EVM, therefore take appropriate care while connecting input from extrnal board. If external input is open-collector or open-drain type than you can connect it to FR pin direclty but if external input is active push-pull or totem pole type than you may need to remove R2.

Hi there,

The DRV11873 data sheet says that the FR status can be reset after the next PWM rising edge, if the PWMIN was pulled low for 300 μs (0.3 milliseconds) when the FS status is high. Does this mean that PWMIN needs to be pulled low for 300 μs when the J2 jumper out and 600 μs when the jumper is installed?

Your understanding is correct.

Jumper In: FS = LO - PWMIN pulled LO for 600 us

Jumper Out: FS = HI - PWMIN pulled LO for 300us
