drv8801a-q1 output pins

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8801-Q1

Hello All,
I have 5 drv8801-q1's and I'm wondering if it is okay to connect all vpropi pins together, all nfault pins together and all sense pins through one sense resistor. Also, it is important to know that only one motor will be running at any one time. I'm asking so that I can minimize the number of components, so any tips regarding my question or minimization of components would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Avi

  • Hi Avi,

nFaults can be pulled up by one resistor. But you will not know which one asserted when fault happens.
You still have 5 motors to drive, and you are not going to parallel any outputs, right?
VPROPI is analog output and should not be connected together.
Sense resistor sounds like fine to share one for the five drivers but all the non-working drivers should be in HiZ state.

Some other ways you can save the number of IC.

You can also use 2x DRV8802Q1 + 1x DRV8801Q1 for 5 DC motors. Also the motors are only surpposed to run for one direction, only half bridges are needed for the driver. Then you may driver more motor with one device.

It is also possible to driver 4 DC motors with DRV8823Q1. So you can add one more DRV8801Q1.

    Best regards,
