DRV8332-HT Power Requirements for Resistor between GVDD power supply and GVDD_X pins

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8332-HT

Hi!

The datasheet for the DRV8332-HT says "

it is recommended to add 26-Ω resistor between the GVDD power supply and GVDD_X pins to limit the inrush current on the internal bootstrap diodes."

How can I calculate the power rating for this resistor?

Thank you.

-Fernando C.

  • Hi Fernando,

The average current of GVDD is only typical 8mA. The inrush current of the first charging on the boot caps is much bigger but only takes very small time (Micro seconds level for 0.1uf boot cap) to get them charged. Also it is not frequent event.

So, a 0805 (~0.125W) or bigger package SMT will be enough for it.

If your boot caps are selected very big >1uF for low PWM frequency, Please use higher power of the GVDD resistor.

    Best regards,
