DRV8320

Hi Sir
I want to use DRV20H in my inverter design and use a FOC algortihm to control my motor.

I want to do In-Line Shunt Precision-Phase Current Sensing With INA240, it's a requirement. The phase current in each phase will be measured inline through a shunt resistor
1-Is it possible with DRV8320H?
2-Can you give me an application note on the topic?
3-How to choose the right Shunt Resistor?

Thanks very much for your answer

  • Hi Merlin,

    1-Is it possible with DRV8320H?

    Yes it is possible.

2-Can you give me an application note on the topic?

There is much information that can be found here: training.ti.com/instaspin-foc-launchpad-and-boosterpack-boostxl-drv8301-boosterpack and in MotorWare and ControlSuite The DRV8301 has many of the same blocks as the DRV8320H

3-How to choose the right Shunt Resistor?

The value of the shunt resistor is dependent on many variables, such as motor current, gain of the amplifier, and power loss of the resistor. It is best to use as low a shunt resistor as possible.
  • Hi sir,

I plan to drive the BLDC motor using FOC algorithms and DRV8320H?
I need 6 PWM inputs. For my inverter i use CSD88539ND MOSFET and i do In-Line Shunt Precision-Phase Current Sensing With INA240.

    My questions:

1-As detailed on page 29 of the datasheet i have to put the MODE Pin Tied to AGND?

2- Should i put one small capacitor (1µF) on each VDRAIN and ground? As detailed on page 60 (figure 51) of the datasheet?

3- I plan to do in line shunt current sensing, does Rsense as shown on the data sheet on page 60(figure 51 ) is mandatory?

4 -how to prevent ringing on the High-side source sense input (SHA, SHB, SHC )?

    Thanks
