DRV8307: Smart gate drive

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: DRV8307

Hi

1.

I believe we don't need to control dead time if TI's motor driver has "smart gate driver architecture".

Is my understanding correct?

2.

Does DRV8307 have smart gate driver architecture?

If yes, how we can recognize whether it has smart gate drive architecture or not?

I could not see description about "smart gate drive" in datasheet.

BestRegards

  • Hi Na na,
The DRV8307 does not have smart gate drive architecture as this device was release before the SGD implementation. You might be able to use at our later drivers which include SGD depending on your design needs. In our datasheet the IDrive and TDrive settings will be mentioned if that device has SGD. What is your end application? What are the spec requirements for your BLDC motor?
  • Hi Luis

    Thank you for your reply.

What is dead time spec of DRV8307?

Our requirement of motor driver is as follows.

    - Brushless Gate driver (external FET)
    - Voltage supply tolerant (VM) : ~ 35V
    - Simple control (HW control may be good, SPI and other I/F is not required)
    - Sinusoidal drive
    - Three hall sensor inputs
    - Small package is better

    BestRegards
