DRV8711: Predriver Fault(XPDF) condtion

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask DRV8711?
We would like to confirm Predriver Fault(XPDF) Indexer mode and PWM mode.

<PWM mode>
In PWM mode, if excessive current is detected on the gate drive outputs (which would be indicative of a failed/shorted output FET or PCB fault),
->Acoording to short between XOUT1(or XOUT2) and GND, we guess that it is possible to confirm.

<Indexer mode>
The datasheet shows "When in indexer mode, both H-bridges are disabled, the xPDF bit in the STATUS register is set, and the FAULTn pin is driven low."
As the condition of occurence, is it the same as PWM mode? short between XOUT1(or XOUT2) and GND??

Hi Matsumoto-san,

The predriver fault (xPDF) indicates a failure on the gate of the FET. The predriver fault may not catch a short between xOUT1/xOUT2 and GND.
The OCP fault (xOCP) indicates a failure between the drain and source of the FET. The OCP fault should catch a short between xOUT1/xOUT2 and GND.

These faults are detected in both PWM and indexer mode.

Hi Matsumoto-san,

The predriver fault monitors proper operation of the x1LS/x2LS/x1HS/x2HS outputs of the DRV8711. If incorrect operation is detected the PDF fault is activated.

Examples of detectable predriver faults are gate to source short, gate to drain short, pin short to adjacent pin.
