DRV8832: DRV8832 fault triggering with current limit

Part Number: DRV8832

Hi team,

I would like to know DRV8832 regards to the fault triggered by current limit condition.

I am using DRV8832EVM to verify whether the fault can triggered by current limit condition. For the experiment, I stop the motor by hand while it’s rotating and the current limit condition was considered keep happening on DRV8832 (current limits set to around 400mA). As below description in datasheet, when fault condition persists for more than 275ms a fault signal should be triggered. But in fact, we can’t observe the fault was triggered. Does team has the application curve while current limit happen and fault triggered? Is there anything customer missed?

Here is the test condition:

  1. 5V apply to VCC
  2. VSET is about 1.45V

Motor spec: 5V/500mArms (7ohm wire resistance)

 Regards,

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Did you change the sense resistor to limit the current to 400mA? What value did you use?

It is difficult to create an overcurrent condition stopping the motor by hand.

For an overcurrent event to be recognized, the current limit must trigger in every PWM cycle for 275ms. If the current limit does not trigger in one PWM cycle, the count is reset.
