DRV8886AT: Reducing EMI

Part Number: DRV8886AT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8884, DRV8885, DRV8886,

Hello.

The following products are not "Smart Gate Drive Devices"?

DRV8884
DRV8885
DRV8886
DRV8886AT

These above devices are not described in the following document.
www.ti.com/.../slva989.pdf

There is no special way to reduce the EMI of these devices, correct?

Regards,
Dice-K

  • Hello Dice-K,

DRV8884/5/6/6AT are not "Smart Gate Drivers" since they are not Gate Drivers. The power FETs are integrated into the device.

Typically, board layout will have the most effect on the EMI performance of integrated FET drivers, but in rare cases you can reduce the EMI spectrum by adding small (like 10nF) capacitors on the OUTx pins or adding a small ferrite bead between DVDD and the bypass capacitor. The best improvement of EMI comes from having short and thick PCB traces between the DRV888x and the various bypass capacitors (VM, VCP, CPH, CPL, AVDD, DVDD)  - you can take a look at the EVM layout for a good example.

    Thanks,

    Matt
