DRV8823-Q1: DRV8823-Q1 fault detect

Part Number: DRV8823-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8823

Dear TI:
DRV8823-Q1 has the fault protection circuit, but no fault pin output, if customer want to sent a signal to MCU when DRV8823 fault, is there a way to do that?

    Thanks!

Regards!

Eric Shen

  • Hi Eric,

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do so.

If the customer is willing to add circuitry, it may be possible. The additional circuitry would be up to 8 diodes and a few resistors, but could be reduced depending on the application.

Please let us know if the customer is willing, and we can propose a possible solution based on the application.
  • Hi Rick:
        Thanks!

Can  you help to give a reference design of the "additional circuitry for fault detect" ?

    Regards!

    Eric Shen

  • Hi Eric,

There is no reference design, but I will put together a proposed circuit and provide it by Wednesday.
  • Hi Rick:
    Thanks a lot!
  • Hi Eric,

Please see attached schematic. The number of outputs connected to the Outputs_Active net depends on the application.

If only one coil will be used at a time, all outputs will probably have to be connected.

The capacitor is optional and creates a RC small filter.

If a overcurrent or overtemperature fault occurs, the Outputs_Active net drops to a logic low. If the GPIO is used as an interrupt, this will identify a fault.

This circuit has not been confirmed.

    I hope this helps.
