Hello.
I purchased a DRV8308EVM to test out the DRV8308 IC. I want to program the controller via SPI and not via the GUI. I then want to permanently save the configuration registers. Finally I want to set some inputs via actual switches/buttons to enable and run and change direction. Is that possible?
Kevin,
Thanks for posting on the MD forum!
Yes you can use an external EEPROM which the board supports or write to the DRV8308 OTP which is also supported.

That part with the OTP is very good and the datasheet is clear on how to set that up. How about the enable, run and change direction as inputs and not via SPI or the GUI. Can someone enlighten me on this one?
Kevin,
The schematic is located here:http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slvc597
There are jumpers that can be removed to control these inputs externally:

I see. What would you say, take away the jumper and feed the pin (2, not from MSP) with 5V from an external source will do it?
A side question:
How about controlling the speed? Can I feed an analog voltage or PWM to control the speed?
Ok. Here is how to set it up.
You can feed the enable pin with 3.3V to enable. You can also set the speed register for a fixed speed and change the value as required for the application. For on the fly variable speed control then you can use the designated speed clock.
