DRV8432: Controlling Overcurrent Protection

Part Number: DRV8432

Hello,

Would it be possible to set the overcurrent threshold by feeding a reference voltage into the OC_ADJ pin, rather than using a resistor? This would allow a dynamic current limit, so it could be set to minimum at start-up, and then increased when certain criteria is met for example. Also, is 1.4A per bridge (plus tolerance) the absolute lowest limit that can be set?

Many thanks,

Stephen

  • Hi Stephen,

It does appear to be possible. See the post: e2e.ti.com/.../1153683

In your case, you can try placing a resistor set to the max desired current with the reference voltage at the end away from the device. The voltage can be raised to mimic a higher resistor.

The recommended max resistance is 200k. If you want lower currents, you can add external circuitry.
