DRV10866EVM: Missing Motor

Part Number: DRV10866EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10866

I have bought the above evaluation board, however it did not come with the BLDC motor included...the second one sent out did not come with the motor either.

The DRV10866_BOM that I downloaded says the motor model number is a Minebea BCL3N01AGka and it is an additional item.

The development user guide however says that it is included in the box???

I cannot find the motor to purchase anywhere. Is there anyone who can help?

Thanks

  • Hey George,

I apologize for the inconvenience. About a year and a half ago, we stopped including motors in our EVM kits. There are many reasons we did this: cost, dependence on the specific motor manufacturers (and it sounds like this model might have gotten discontinued), and (a clear majority of) users who only used the EVM to evaluate their own motor.

In addition, we changed our documentation to show that motors were no longer included in the kit. Unfortunately, it seems like the DRV10866 was not included in those changes. Thank you for pointing this out, we need to fix this ASAP.

Let me know if you have any questions and I apologize again for the inconvenience.

    Best,

    -Cole

  • Hi Cole

Thanks for your reply. I thought I would use the evaluation board to speed up development of the BLDC in my design.
Do you know how to get hold of the motor in question or do you have any further information on the motor? A search of Minebea BCL3N01AGka doesn't bring any search results.

    Thanks

    George
  • Hey George,

Looking back at some notes, we got word that this motor was discontinued and we don't have any new information regarding the motor. The order-able part number of the motor we used, BCL3N01AF, doesn't yield anything meaningful when searching. Unfortunately, you may be out of luck regarding this motor. As a result, it seems like you have two options: pick a motor and then select a driver for that motor or select a motor that may work with the DRV10866.

As shown above, we do have a simple recommended application range if you would like to try and select your motor. If you do choose to use your own motor, ensure that it has access to the COM port, in addition to the phases. The DRV10866 needs access to the COM port to operate.

    Best,
