DRV8881: DECAY MODE setting

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask DRV8881?

On the dataset P17, there is the description about DECAY MODE setting.

This DECAY MODE setting means decay in case of Itrip, right?

Our customer would like to use DRV8881E for BDC motor.

The customer will not use brake, so we assume that DRV8881E is suitable for customer' s spec.

In relation to <Question1>, with using BDC, what kind of DECAY MODE setting is recommended?

We think it depends on motor's current or inductance.

Hello Matsumoto-san,

1) Correct. The decay modes relate to the current regulation scheme and define what the driver does during the OFF time to regulate the current.

2) Typically BDC motors are driven with slow decay during the off time, so I recommend setting xDECAY to 0. However, if the customer does not want to use slow decay during the off-time, then they can leave xDECAY floating.
