DRV2624: Automotive qualification and use

Hello team,

my customer would be interested in a haptic driver that they will mount and an engine and from there measure the RPMs of it.

Do you believe this is a good choice? Do we have an automotive qualified component like this one?

We have the DRV2605L-Q1. This is a similar device but with integrated effects library.

Hi Luis,

thank you for the quick response. I do see it can be used as piezoelectric but I wanted to ask if it could be used in the opposite direction, that is I measure the vibration and from it I generate an electric signal.

Could it work?

Could you explain this application on more detail?

The DRV2605L-Q1 can only generate an output signal based on the actuator characteristics. Its automatic level calibration allows to generate an output signal based on the back-EMF behavior.

Hi Luis,

yes that's what I was thnking. Our devices aren't able to measure a vibration and from it generate a signal.

I wanted to measure the RPMs of an engine and from it generate a signal to transmit outside to a data collector.

Do you happen to know if we have something that could work this way?

Hi, Adrian,

Unfortunately, there's no a single chip solution in our Motor Drivers portfolio.

However, I think there should be a hall effect sensor that may help you to measure the speed information from a motor. Then, you would need of a microcontroller or processor to generate the output signal based on the information that the sensor throws.

Could you ask about this in our Sensors Forum, please? Our team should orientate you in a better way or propose another alternative.
