DRV8885: DVDD and AVDD capacitance requirement that include DC bias

Part Number: DRV8885

Hi,

Could you please let me know the minimum recommendation for DVDD and AVDD capacitance that include DC bias spec?

Datasheet description : Bypass to GND with a X5R or X7R, 0.47-μF, 6.3-V ceramic capacitor.

Thanks

Muk

  • Muk,

The EVM DVDD capacitor was Kemet C0603C474K9RACTU.

From http://ksim.kemet.com/Plots/SpicePlots.aspx link, we can estimate the capacitance could have 5.26% drop at 3.6V and 12.26% drop at 5.48V. The minimum capacitance is 0.44uF for DVDD and 0.41uF for AVDD in a real EVM board.

I don't have a simulation result to support me. But, in general, design will simulate the nominal vale plus/minus 20%. So, I would think the minimum capacitance is 0.37uF for DVDD and AVDD.
