TPS560430XFEVM: Substituting TPS560430X3FDBVR with LMR16006YQ3DDCRQ1 due to current stock issues

Hi,

We have a design which is using the TPS560430X3FDBVR voltage regulator and we need to do a production run of this design as soon as possible.

However this part number has a lead time of several months - which we cannot wait for.

Therefore we are planning create a variant of this design which will allow us to get this production run going whilst getting the same results.

Following discussions with the Chat support from TI, I found the LMR16006YQ3DDCRQ1 IC which seems to be pin compatible and outputs the same fixed voltage.

Therefore may I get a confirmation for the following:

The TPS560430X3FDBVR and LMR16006YQ3DDCRQ1 are actually pin compatible with one another
What changes are required to the surrounding passives if any. I have also attached the current PSU design with the TPS560430X3FDBVR IC

Please note that given the timeframes we are bound with we will not have enough time to prototype this modification which is why I'm asking for your help to ensure that we get this right first time.

Hi Andre,

It looks like the 2 devices are footprint compatible, however there are a couple of differences that must be considered.

The TPS560430 is a synchronous buck, meaning there is both high and low side switch internal to the device. The LMR16006 is a non-synchronous buck which only has a high side switch internal while an external diode is required for your low side switch.

The LMR16006 does not have a fixed 3.3V option. So 2 feedback resistors will need to be added to set the output voltage.

Also, the switching frequency of the TPS560430 is 1.1MHz, while the Fsw options for the LMR16006 are 700kHz or 2.1MHz. This would effect the size of your inductor.

I would recommend running a couple of designs using Webench and your operating conditions to compare the circuit and BOM differences.

Therefore the statement that 3.3V fixed output options are available on the LMR16006Y-Q1 is incorrect?

In continuation to my previous comments turns out that the LMR16006XDDCR that is recommended by Webench is also out of stock! by comparison, the LMR16006YQ3DDCRQ1 is available both at TI and other distributors.

Please keep in mind that I need this component to be in stock NOW to use it.

Hi Andre,

Yes, you are correct, the Q1 device does have a fixed 3.3V option. So, this device can be used as an option to replace the TPS device.

It looks like this device is a 2.1MHz device and it requires the external free-wheeling diode, so you would need to change your design to account for these differences.
