BQ2961: BQ296106 vs BQ296103, power consumption difference

Part Number: BQ2961
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50,

Hi,

My customer is using BQ40Z50 and BQ2961 for a power bank application. so far, they met a power consumption issue, there is still a 8mA current when shut down. after the troubleshooting ,

it finally located to R169 as below picture show. by changing R169 from 100Ω to 100KΩ, the current was down to 540uA.  BTW, By checking their design, they fully followed TI ref design, just

minor differences in discrete components such as MOS.  also  In TI design , BQ296103 is used, but my customer is using BQ296106.  please kindly suggest if some ideas to help locate this issue. thanks.

  • Hi Yue,

There really should not be any difference between using the BQ296103 and the BQ296106. The schematic for the BQ2961 portion looks okay. The supply current for the BQ2961 should only be a few uA. Are they able to determine where the current is flowing? The supply current for the BQ40Z50 device should be around 330uA in Normal mode.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Matt,

Thanks. I agree with you and also verify on 40z50 EVM. will support them to do FA. let me close this thread first.
