BQ76940: Charge detect and discharge detect / Sleep wake up functional;ity

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00792

Dear Ti,

We have seen that Once AFE put in to SHip or Sleep mode its hard to bring it back to wake up mode from full shut down.

For example if some one wants to discharge the Battery or charge it and if Battery is in Sleep Mode than it becomes difficult to wake up, since AFE it self not have wake up functionality from SHIP or Sleep Mode.

I also refered to TIDA_01093 Schematic in which Charge Detect and Load Removal circuit is provided , but it does not help in Charge detect if Difference between Charger and Battery is less than 1Volts.

So any one if have some great solution for Charger Based Wake up & Discharger Based Wakeup , please share.

Thanks ,

Rohit

  • Hi Rohit,

The PACK based wake in TIDA-1093 is DC coupled, so there must be a specific voltage difference between PACK- and BAT- to turn on Q20.   You might make a circuit which is AC triggered such as in TIDA-00792 surrounding Q23.  The circuit is different of course since it is not stacked and has high side FETs, but the method could be applied to a circuit for TIDA-1093.  Select component values based on the behavior of your charger.
