TPS60403: ABS of OUT-pin in "Doubling Inverter" usage

Part Number: TPS60403

Hi support team,

Figure 9-8, Page-18, SLVS324C

I input 4V and generate -8V with the usage of "Doubling Inverter".

In that case, it deviates from ABS -5.5V, is that no problem?

Does it mean that there is no problem because the GND voltage of the second device is -4V?

OUT - GND = -8V - (-4V) = -4V

  • Hi Dice,

The absolute maximum ratings mentioned in the datasheet are stress ratings only. As per the datasheet, the operating principle of a “Doubling inverter” would produce – 2x Vi, so I don’t see be a problem during normal operation with those values.

I would also recommend to look at the following app note : https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slva494 to get a better understanding about the ABS maximum rating during normal operation.

And yes, the second device is referenced to GND which is also the output of the first device. So, your understanding is correct.

    Thanks!

    Best regards

    Sneha
