TPS61163AEVM-564: Missing USB-to-GPIO adapter box for the TPS61163AEVM-564 kit

Part Number: TPS61163AEVM-564

Hi. We wish to review the TPS6113 IC for a new design and purchased the TPS61163AEVM-564 EVB. The manual states that a USB to GPIO adapter is required and is included with the kit. We did not receive the USB to GPIO adapter. Is this an error in shipping or the documentation is incorrect ? Either way, we are unable to use the shipped PCB. Please supply more details on the IDC shrouded header that is used with the canned Windows s/w.

TPS61163AEVM-564 User's Guide (ti.com)

2.2.3 One-Wire Digital EasyScaleTm Dimming The user also can implement dimming by using a digital control signal. The EVM kit includes a PC software CD and USB-to-GPIO interface box, which when installed on a PC and connected to the EVM, allows the user to communicate with the EVM through a GUI interface.

  • Hi Mon,

Where you purchase the EVM board kit? Usually it would include the USB2GPIO tool. I applied one to check if it is included now and will reply you in next week.

For PWM dimming mode, there is no need for USB2GPIO tool and you can drive the device by PWM signal directly.

Meanwhile, do you have a controller or MCU to send out signal? This single wire protocol is not complex, you can write a program to control the EVM.

  • Thanks. The documentation mentions the same but no USB2GPIO tool was included. It is more of a FYI at this stage for correction of the related documents. One of our engineers dug one up from a past purchase of another EVB from TI. We hope to test this LED driver soon with the kit and our FPGA IP. Thanks.

  • Hi Mon,

Sorry that I forgot to reply you. There is no USB2GPIO tool included in the package. It seems the tool is not offered anymore together with EVB anymore. The EVB is sold $49 and the USB-TO-GPIO is $99. I think the tool is removed from the package in some reason. You may need to purchase USB-TO-GPIO in TI.com separately is want it.

We will update this information in related document and thanks for point it out to us.
