BQ25883: BQ25883 battery temperature protection

Part Number: BQ25883

Hi team

If TS voltage exceeds the T5 , the controller suspends charging. which FET was turned off?  BATFET Q4?

  • Hello Harry,

While the adaptor is present it will disconnect Q4 and power to SYS will be powered from VBUS. The charger will still allow discharge when VBUS is not present and the power will be supplied by the batteries.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Thanks Waytt

The VBUS is presented, JEITA_VSET set:01(8V).  TS voltage at the T3 to T5,Vbus charge Battery until  8V,  then controller suspends charging.  which FET will be turn off?  I think it‘s Q4 still and VBUS provides power to VSYS.  But customer found charging suspends indeedly, But VBAT discharge to provide power for VSYS, not VBUS. why?

    Thanks!

  • Hello Harry,

I've been doing some testing on our side to confirm. You are correct, if the battery is above the JEITA_VSET value and T_WARM threshold is entered with charge enabled, the charger will pull power from the battery (essentially supplement mode) until the battery voltage drops down into the VREG range again.

It should have minimal impact because the charger should still regulate to the specified voltage for the T3-T5 region of T_WARM.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
