TPS2561A: USB type C charging topology and suggestion

Part Number: TPS2561A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2513A, TPS2513A-Q1

Hi there,

Below is our design requirement.

1. Four USB type C ports, providing maximum 5V/2A each port, no data transmission

2. Limiting total power output, 5V/4A, to keep system power stable

3. The power of each port is controlled respectively

4. Limited space for placement

Please help check if below topology is correct and ideal.

  • Looks fine, sir.

    Thanks.

  • Can you also check the overall topology and all TI component? not only TPS2561A

Is there any better way or component to achieve our design?

We would like our design to be compatible with most device, is TPS2513A suitable?

What's the difference between TPS2513A and TPS2513A-Q1?  TPS2513A-Q1 is specifically for car charger?

    Thanks.

  • 1. TPS2513A-Q1 is used for automotive application. TPS2513A is used for consumer application.

    2. TPS256x and TPS2513A look fine from my side for the application scenario. I can't offer the answer that whether it will be compatible with most device. But the device you choosed can meet the function.

    3. For other devices, it doesn't belong to our team. Please resubmit a thread for other devices if needed.

  • One more question...

Since we would set the current limit of TPS2561A to 2A only, what would TPS2561A do if the USB port is connected to DCP divider3 device (2.4A)?

stable output 2A or drop down voltage to 0V?

What we are looking for is an IC that output maximum 2A even if the end device request 2.4A.

    Can TPS2561A meet our request?

  • It will hiccup as out of the current limit.

Don't have the device that can meet the request unless the load current is very low.
