BQ24232HA: Charging temperature limit

Part Number: BQ24232HA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24075T, BQ24072T, BQ24079T

We are planning to use BQ24232HA to charge a LiPo battery. Typically Lipo batteries have max charge temperature of 45gC. The IC has max charging temperature of 50gC, and reading the datasheet it seems that this limit can be increased, but not decreased. Is there a way to reduce limit to 45gC? or do you have a similar charger IC that can be used? To obtain CE approval (IEC62368-1), we cannot charge at higher temperature than battery spec

  • Hi,

Although you can modify the charging range, it is difficult for the BQ24232HA to decrease the temperature range. A similar charger IC is the BQ24072T, BQ24075T, or BQ24079T. These ICs are capable of higher charge and also use a voltage based battery temperature monitoring system. It allows for better control when adding series and parallel resistors at the TS pins. You can refer to Section 9.3.12 of those IC datasheets.
