Hello TI Team!

Quick question - I'm looking into using the BQ25120F3A for an application where the MCU may draw above the 300mA current limit of the BQ25120F3A. I was thinking of using BQ25120F3A for battery charging, wakeup, and powering sensors, and using a separate TPS62088 directly powered by the battery voltage (bypassing the BQ25120F3A), which would be enabled after BQ25120F3A wakes up from ship mode.

Do you foresee any significant issues with this approach? Wanted to confirm that the BQ25120F3A power management will operate as expected with a second regulator being driven by the battery voltage.

Hello Tyler,

It is good to have any load connected to PMID to take advantage of the BUVLO feature in the device. Connecting a load directly to battery you could deeply discharge it (without an additional protector).

You can also check out the bq21061, it has a much higher current rating on PMID (1.5A).

Hey Nick!

Thanks so much for the reply! I'd love to use the bq21061, but it seems to be totally sold out. Any tips on this? Great point RE: UVLO though. If I were to find a second regulator with a matched UVLO voltage to the BQ25120F3A, do you foresee any other issues?

Hi Tyler,

That should be fine. You can also use a protector like bq2970.
