Hi Team,

My customer is looking for single chip solution to reference design PMP9806.

The expectation from the IC is When the output current is higher than the specified level, it stabilizes the current and reduces the output voltage without going into protection.

Which devices can be used here?

Hi Furkan,

You can directly use TPS61088 and set the current limit you need at ILIM pin. If the output current is higher than the specified level, the output voltage will drop but no protection is triggered as you want.

Hi Yichen,

Do you think we might have any other device that fits following requirements?

Input voltage : 18-60V
Output voltage : 13.5V
Output current : 10A / 20A
Switching frequency : 200 -400KHz

HI Furkan,

Take a look at the LM5145 75V and LM5146 100V family (pin compatible). The LM5145 EVM is 5V/20A/225kHz, and the LM5146 EVM is 12V/8A/400kHz.

Use the LM5145 quickstart calculator to select components.

Hi Timothy,

The LM5145 seems appropriate for what we want. However, I saw that hiccup-mode is active when the output current rises above a certain level. On the contrary, we need a structure that reduces the output voltage and limits the output current to the maximum level.

Do you think this can be supported?

Hi Furkan,

That is known as CC/CV operation. Take a look at app note SNVA829 for more detail: www.ti.com/lit/snva829

The LM5117 65V contorller might be of interest as it has a CM pin that simplifies CC implementation.
