TPS62410: TPS62410 as replacement for TPS62420?

Hello,

Our existing designs use TPS62420 to provide 1.2V and 3.3V to a TMS320F28377D MCU, plus other devices on the 3.3V rail. But it looks like stock has been wiped out for the next year or so. Closest match I can find is the TPS62410. Here's the differences I can see from comparing datasheets:

1. TPS6242x datasheet covers both TPS62420 and TPS62421, the latter of which is a fixed output version. The TPS62410 datasheet also mentions a "fixed output version." Are both outputs of the TPS62410 settable via resistor dividers up until Vin?

2. TPS6242x is specified for output currents of 600/1000mA, TPS62410 is 800mA on both outputs. Not a problem for my use case.

Is there anything else I should be aware of? I saw several other posts regarding stability/overshoot issues with the TPS62410, maybe there's also some difference on the feedback side...?

Thanks for coming to us with your queries.

You're correct. Both output rails of TPS62410 are settable via FB resistor dividers. And it can supports a Vout range from 0.6V to Vin.

I don't see any concern if you change your solution from TPS62420 to TPS62410 as long as it satisfies your load current requirements because both devices have the same core design.

Hi Excel, thanks for the feedback.

Just one further question: if I only needed a single output rail, are there any other parts you can suggest which are similar in operation to the TPS62420/TPS62410? Switching frequency, feedback controller, startup behavior are most critical here.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your response.

You might like to consider TPS628511 which can support up to 1A of load current. It has a switching frequency of 2.25MHz and feedback control circuit which is almost similar with TPS624x0. And it also has SS/TR pin which can be use to program the output voltage ramp-up time.

In addition, it offers better efficiency due to much lower on-state resistance of the power FETs, and smaller solution size (30mm^2). Please refer to the datasheet and evaluation board in the links below.
