LP38512-ADJ: Need confirmation to provide 0.5Vout

Genius 15009 points
Part Number: LP38512-ADJ

Hi Experts,

Good day.

I am not sure if my understanding is correct with the LP38512-ADJ.

If I wanted to provide the lowest possible output of the subjected LDO, Vout = 500mV, based from page 10 of its datasheet guidance formula: R1 must be 0, right? So I have to connect the Vadj and Vout? As Vadj is expected to be at 0.5V also.

Well, if my understanding is correct, that must it be. Also, would R2 of 1kOhm value sufficed?

Thank you for confirming.

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi Archie,

If you need 0.5V then yes, just tie Vout to Vadj.  R2 is not necessary.

This is an older device and they say in the datasheet that you need 1mA of current, minimum, on Vout.  This does not appear to be related to stability (the datasheet would have mentioned this if it were) but it may be due to load regulation.  It is common for LDO's to have slightly higher Vout at the lightest possible loads.  If you have 1mA of minimum current in your system, then this is fine.  If you have less than 1mA of DC current, you may want to evaluate the DC load regulation and if necessary, add R2 to provide a small amount of DC load.

    Thanks,

    Stephen
