TLC5957: Power Save Mode

Hello,

It seems like the TLC5957 datasheet and SLVUAF0 user guide are lacking details regarding the power save mode. How exactly do you enter power save mode on the TLC5957?

A similar LED driver, the TLC5958, describes the power save mode in detail in its own section and functional block diagram in the datasheet. Obviously this Driver is difference because it has memory.

The only reference to the TLC5957 power save mode that I could find was in this forum, a TI App Engineer stating that the TLC5957 has a power save mode.

Hi Jeremiah,

We have check it repeatedly that there is no power save mode function in device TLC5957.

That is unfortunate. This was one of the primary reasons why I chose the TLC5957 over other LED drivers like the TLC5955. I had to design this in and order production quantity without any testing or validation due to chip shortage concerns. I did check these forums prior to ordering and saw the other TI App Engineer mention that it had this mode.

I just hope that I can trust the datasheet about the other Supply Current modes. I can get away with ICC0 mode which is 10 mA max at the given test conditions.

Thank you for looking into this. Hopefully the datasheet will be revised so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Really thanks for your reminder.

Since this is an old device, so some information is misty. I have double check with our designer and product engineer, there is no power save mode function so it takes several days. the description in the datasheet about ICC4 is not clear which may led to misunderstanding. we will update it later.
