TPS56637: Selection of inductance and capacitance

Part Number: TPS56637
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , TPS56339

Dear sir:

We expect to use TI's tps56637 for voltage conversion. The required voltage and current are as follows. Is the selection of inductance and capacitance appropriate? Please help confirm, thank you!

If the output voltage is 14.5V, what is the minimum IC input voltage required? Are there any other precautions for the use of this IC?

 Thank you very much!

Ellie

  • Hello,

The TPS56637 is not rated for a voltage output greater than 13V.

Taking a look at the table below found in the datasheet, it looks like all your capacitance values are fine, but your inductor values at 3.3 V and 5V need an increase to 2.2uH and 3.3uH, respectively.

    Thanks,
    Caleb

  • Dear Caleb:

      Thanks for your reply!

The query on TI's official website shows that the output voltage range of tps56637evm is 0.6V ~ 16V. Is there any error in the record? If I need the above 4 groups of voltage outputs, do you have a recommended buck IC? My input voltage is 4s2p battery pack, and the battery pack voltage range is 14.5V ~ 16.8v

The maximum current limit of 5V and 3.3V output is 2a, so I calculate the inductance as 2.2uh and 1.2uh according to the formula in datasheet. Do I need to replace it with 3.3uh and 2.2uh?

       Thank you very much!

    Ellie

  • Hi Ellie,
The TPS56637EVM-029 is rated for 5V output. Please refer to user guide Table 2-1.
For 14.5~16.8Vin 5Vo/3.3Vo@2A rail, you could use our 3A buck TPS56339.
For 14.5~16.8Vin 12Vo@6A rail, you could use our 6A buck TPS56637.
About LC selection, please refer to the LC recommendation table in datasheet as Caleb mentioned.
    For 14.5~16.8Vin 14.5Vo@6A rail, TPS56637 cannot support.

  • Dear sir:

The input voltage of 14.4V ~ 16.8v needs to be converted to 14.5V, and the maximum output current is 6A. Do you have a suitable IC recommendation?

    Thank you very much!

  • Hi Ellie,

For 14.4V~16.8V to 14.5V conversion, you need a buck-boost to implement. Please consult the corresponding expert in e2e buck-boost forum.
