TPS548B22: TPS548A20 TPS548B22 TPS544B20 5Vinput 3.3V output application

Part Number: TPS548B22
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS548A20, , TPS544B20

Hi team,

Customer is doing a 5V input switch project, and they want to check with us if TPS548A20 TPS548B22 TPS544B20 could support 5V input and 3.3V output application, datasheet don't show this configuration, could you help comment?

Thanks and best regards,

Will

  • Hi Will,

Our US team will check it then get back to you soon.

  • Hi Will,

It is possible to use the TPS548B22, TPS548A20,or TPS544B20 in an application with 5V at the input and 3.3V at the output. There are several design considerations to take into account as well. For one, we have to to make sure the switching frequency is set such that the minimum off-time of the switch node can be achieved. In a high duty cycle application such as this one, this may require setting a lower than anticipated switching frequency depending on the abilities of the part. Another major consideration is the inductance. In a higher duty cycle and potentially lower switching frequency application such as this, a larger inductor may be needed to ensure the inductor ripple current is within 0.1x and 0.4x the load current per TI's recommendations for balanced designs. Although it is not a hard requirement, it is recommend. The inductor should also be selected to avoid any high-side overcurrent limits of the device if operating near the fully rated load current of the part.

Please reach out for any design guidance or help needed in selecting/using any of the mentioned parts for the application you described.

    Regards,

    Alec Biesterfeld
