LM5156: Can LM5156 be used for LM5155 replacing without peripheral parts parameter changing?

Part Number: LM5156
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5155,

Hello guys,

One of my customers is evaluating LM5155 with SEPIC topology.

Also they want to use LM5156 on the same PCB if LM5155 lead time becomes long.

They have the following question at this moment. Could you give me your reply for them?

Q. Can LM5156 be used for LM5155 replacing without peripheral parts parameter changing?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Kazuya

  • Hi Kazuya-san,

the device will fit into the footprint and also for most parameter be identical or even higher rated.

Using the same footprint without modification will enable the SpreadSpectrum on the LM5156.

Also a few parameter has some minor variances, so that there are some differences.

To decide if this are acceptable the customer might need to compare the datasheet and I also recommend to test on there PCB with replacing a device first and make some measurements.

    Best regards,

     Stefan

  • HI Stefan,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Could I ask you an additional question?

Webench for LM5156 doesn't have SEPIC topology condition in the pull down menu.

Do you know why? Can LM5156 not be used for SEPIC topology?

Thank you again and best regards,

    Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya,

the LM5156 can do SEPIC topology.

the LM5156 in SEPIC topology is also supported in Webench

You can select on the product page and also in the Webench. If starting from Webench just enter LM5156 as device and then scroll down. This can easily be missed (also happene to me several times)

You can also use the Quickstart calculator Excel sheet available on the product page.

    Best regards,

     Stefan

  • Hi Stefan,

I could find it. Your reply is very helpful for the customer and me.

Thank you again and best regards,

    Kazuya.
