You cannot modify the default options of the device. After powering up or waking out of shipmode all registers will be set to default values. Any changes made prior that will be lost and you will need to re-configure your registers. There are multiple devices which are part of the same family BQ2512x which has different default options. Refer to the BQ25120A, BQ25121A, BQ25122, BQ25123, BQ25120F3A, and BQ25125 for details or reach out to one of our marketing or field apps engineer for help selecting the device.
