LM61460-Q1: Ferrite bead instead of Resistor

Hi Team,

Our customer is considering to use a ferrite bead in place of the boot resistor for LM61460-Q1. Ferrite bead specifications are 500mΩ DC, 2.2K at 100MHz. Would this work the same, better, or worse when compared to the specified characteristics of the device when 100Ω boot resistor is used?

Hi Jejomar,

The ferrite bead suggestion has not been tested for so I would suggest having customer evaluate on the LM61460-Q1EVM for this case study.

Is there a reason why customer needs to use a ferrite bead instead of a cheap passive resistor here?

Also if the ferrite bead is in mΩ of resistance, then that is basically not using the slew rate feature. In that case, it would be easier to just short RBOOT to CBOOT through a 0Ω placeholder.

Our customer simply wants to know if a ferrite bead was tested and if it contributes to a better performance. We've shared your response and they've agreed to use a simple boot resistor instead for cost-efficiency. Thanks for your support!
