TLC5947: Upgrade path using an currently available part

Part Number: TLC5947
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5951, TLC5952, TLC5954, TLC5955, TLC5958, LP5890

The TLC5947 part we are currently using has an extremely long lead time.  Is there another part that is currently available that would require a minimal redesign of our PCB and/or firmware.  Not having gray-scale output would be acceptable.  We are also looking to add RGB capability to this product.  Using the same, or a compatible part would be helpful.

  • Hi Ben,

Could you help to share the system requirements for LED driver like the LED numbers and configuration, output current, PWM dimming ratio, preferred protocol or other special requirements? We can recommend another suitable solution.

TLC5947 is a quite old device and no other p2p or compatible solution. The closest solutions should be TLC5951 or TLC5952. Based on the worldwide IC supply challenge, I cannot say they have better leadtime than TLC5947.

  • Hello Hardy

I'm looking at a 22 by 34 matrix, non- multiplexed monochrome display.  Our current display is gray scale, but that is no longer a requirement.  We are however looking at possibly going to RGB (if cost effective).  Our current draw is less than 30 mA, but have a higher top end may be desirable.  We can PWM 0 to 100%, although our lowest required PWM is closer to 10%.

    Thanks,

    Ken

  • Hi Ken,

Except TLC5951/2 mentioned before, you could also take a look of TLC5958, TLC5955 and TLC5954 who are 48-channel device and can use less unit count comparing with TLC5947. TLC5958 and TLC5955 should still have inventory in TI.com.

I am not sure why the multiplexing structure cannot be used, may be the current capability. If other high-integrated device can be considered, LP5890/1 can also be recommended.
