LM3671: Inductor Selection Method 1 in Data Sheet

Part Number: LM3671

Hi,

I am planning to use LM3671TLX-ADJ  and would like to confirm that Ioutmax (per the formula in section 8.2.1.2.1.1  of the data sheet) is referring to the maximum current I need for my application and not the maximum 600mA the part is capable of.  Is my understanding correct?  I am planning for currents less than100mA.   Also since I am going to have current below 100mA are there any other suggestions so that I may maximize efficiency while still keeping my inductor small in size?

Thank you,

HSG

  • Hi HSG,

As shown in the datasheet there are 2 ways to choose the inductor saturation current rating. In section 8.2.1.2.1.1 - the 1st method, Ioutmax refers to the maximum load current in your application. Method 2, where the inductor saturation current is greater than the current limit is the recommended method. With method 2, you have current limit protection in your application.

An inductor with lower core losses and DCR will give you better efficiency.

    Best regards,

    Varun
