TPS65185: What other suitable diode/ntc alternatives are there and how to connect the different grounds?

Part Number: TPS65185

Hi,

I'd like to know the implications of using the B57861S0103F040 thermistor instead of the recommended NCP18XH103F03RB. I understand the their Beta values are different, therefore I'm not entirely sure if it is a suitable alternative.

Furthermore, I am curious weather I can use the PMEG3010AESBYL on pin VN and VB as the Schottky diode, and the BAV199DW-7-F for the dual switching diodes on VEE_DRV and VDD_DRV. I think they are good replacements of the recommended one, however, I may have missed a crucial feature.

Lastly, could you please explain the difference between DGND, PGND1/2 and AGND1/2 and how they should be connected/starred?

Thank you for any help provided.

  • Hi,

With a different thermistor, the thermistor monitor specs listed in the datasheet will not apply. The customer would be responsible for validating the device's operation with the different thermistor.

The main considerations for the Schottky diodes are current rating for standard operation, and forward voltage drop for efficiency. Did you consider these parameters in your decision for these components?

The difference in GND pin names indicates what internal circuitry is referenced to that pin. From the PMIC's perspective, it is acceptable to use a single, large GND for all the GND related pins. If you wish to keep them separate to reduce ground noise, the different GNDs can be star connected at the inverting buck-boost input capacitor as was done on the EVM.

    Thanks,

    Gerard
