BQ27520-G4: Application questions about BQ27520-G4

Part Number: BQ27520-G4

Hello Sir:

We have some questions about our applications, please refer these questions as below.

1. If our battery pack is remove-able, can we keep using BQ27520-G4 on our PCBA of POS system?

2. if we can keep using BQ27520-G4, how about the SOC accuracy after we change a battery? does it possible be controlled in 5%?

3. If we remove the battery from system, then let adapter plug in, how many percentage will be on SOC?

Please help to provide your recommendations for us.

Thanks a lot.

  • Hello Statham,

    1. BQ27520-G4 is system side gauge. It will work with removable packs

    2. If the battery that is plugged in has the same chemistry, then the SOC will be estimated. If the battery was at rest before being plugged in, then the SOC will be accurate and likely within 5%. However if the battery was not a rest, then the value will be incorrect. When further discharged, it will slowly converge to a more accurate value

    3. BQ27520-G4 is not designed to report correct values without a battery. There are ways to indicate if a battery is present. The system must track if battery is present before trying to read SOC. My guess is that SOC is likely to show 100%.

This section references the setting for battery insertion detection and corresponding behavior.
