BQ40Z50-R1: if we can connect the SMBus of BQ40Z50 to I2C of MCU directly?

Hello All:

      As we know, BQ40Z50 just has SMBus, and most MCU just has I2C;

      So, if we can connect the SMBus of BQ40Z50 to the I2C of MCU directly?  if it would cause any problem of  compatibility/stability?

    Hello Andrew,

    The electrical specifications of SMB and I2C are similar. Therefore it is ok to connect SMBus of bq40z50 to I2C of MCU directly. Pullups will be required for reliable communication, make sure pullup voltage does not exceed specs for either. MCU software will need to be made SMBus compliant.
